Groundwater Action Symposium: Educating and Organizing our Community for Action

Save the Date: Saturday, September 28, 2019. Clarion Inn, Harpers Ferry, WV. 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Rural Agricultural Defenders (RAD) is pleased to present the second in a continuing series of symposia focused on providing the public with clear, unbiased and accurate scientific information to allow for evidence-based decision making and action at the individual and community level.

This single day symposium will focus on a natural resource that connects the residents of Jefferson County, WV to each other and the larger region, groundwater!

Jefferson County, WV is blessed with a bountiful aquifer and sweet springs. Situated between the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers – and within the larger Chesapeake Bay Watershed – Jefferson County is connected to a regional water system that supports millions of people. Whether you have a well or receive your water from a town or company, we are all drinking, bathing, cooking and farming with local water.

Protecting and monitoring the health of this invaluable resource starts with education and organized action. Residents and community organizations of Jefferson County, and our neighbors in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, are invited to attend. Morning sessions will focus on groundwater education. Afternoon sessions will include practical information for groundwater testing and RAD Groundwater Project.

Registration includes the full day of sessions outlined below, beverages and snacks, buffet lunch (including a vegetarian option!) and an invitation to participate in a community testing project organized by RAD. Registration will be free!

Tentative Schedule:

Session 1 – Our Changing Climate and Local Watershed

Session 2 – Jefferson County Groundwater, with a special focus on Karst.
